The Nissan Motor Company

Nissan is a Japanese company with a long history. At the same time, we are a global company with great diversity and ties to New Zealand. Established in Yokohama City, Japan in 1933, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. currently manufactures vehicles in 20 countries and areas around the world, while offering products and services in more than 160 countries worldwide.

Nissan also boasts some of the world’s most advanced technologies (learn about Nissan Intelligent Mobility), a robust financial base, and a global business network built to utilise these to further drive evolution in the automotive industry.

The World’s Leading Automotive Alliance

Founded in 1999, the alliance consists of 3 key brands; Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi (as well as subsidiary brands) selling 10,600,000 vehicles in 2017.

This makes us the world’s largest automotive manufacturing group, with 1 in 9 vehicles sold worldwide coming from any one of our 122 manufacturing plants, offering a truly international quality to all Nissan models.

‘Zero-Emission’ is Our Mission

Nissan is committed to “becoming a leader in zero-emission vehicles” and is putting in the very latest technologies to achieve an exit from fossil fuels in order to strengthen the development and production of Electric Vehicles. We have set a goal of growing EV sales across the range, which includes the new Nissan LEAF and ‘e-Power’ introduced to existing models.

However, producing and selling Zero-Emission Vehicles are merely initial steps towards realizing a sustainable society as we need to establish the  installation of chargers for EVs. Nissan is fully devoted to zero-emission mobility through establishing partnerships with governments, electricity companies, and private entities.

Invested in Global Partnerships

Nissan is actively involved in some of the biggest sports sponsorships in the world, with the key being to bring ‘innovation that excites’ to the game and viewers. We are on board as global partners of the UEFA Champions League and ICC Cricket World Cup, as well as entering a factory backed team, Nissan e.dams, in the FIA Formula E electric street racing Championship from the 2019 season.

Nissan also boasts global athletics superstar Usain Bolt and Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka as brand ambassadors, to confirm our ongoing support of the world’s best in their field.
