World Fashion Show with Cockram Nissan at Ballantynes

Recently Cockram Nissan joined forces with WORLD to host a fashion show at Ballantynes in Christchurch. The event was to launch the Heavy Metal range for Spring/Summer 2013/2014. Associating with a well-known New Zealand brand at an iconic Christchurch location like Ballantynes was an easy fit for Cockram Nissan.

Guests arrived to a ‘red carpet’ welcome and entered Ballantynes in front of a line-up of the very latest Nissan vehicles, before cocktails and refreshments. Later, the music level rose and the lights dimmed before a line-up of models took to the cat-walk to flaunt WORLD’s latest fashion range.

The evening was introduced by Denise L’Estrange-Corbet of WORLD, Alistair Hazeldine of Cockram Nissan, and Nissan New Zealand Managing Director, John Manley. Special guests included Francis Hooper and Benny Castles of WORLD as well as Jax Hamilton, Master Chef contestant.

3 New Nissan Models

While there has been a lot of big Nissan news in the past year – such as Nissan joining the V8 Supercars, the launch of the new Nissan Patrol and Nissan Pulsar, and the Nissan Patrol taking the world record for towing an aircraft – you really just can’t get enough “Nissan”, which is why we’re excited to see that there are not one but three new vehicle launches on the cards from Nissan in the coming months.

The New Nissan Altima

New Nissan Altima

The Nissan Altima made the headlines as Nissan’s introduction to the V8 Supercars. The Altima, driven by James Moffat, then went on to win its first V8 Supercars victory, leading James’ team-mate Michael Caruso to a one-two finish at Winton.

The Altima has been redesigned, inside and out, and has been hailed as “the most refined, efficient, and upscale Altima ever by (who also classed it as the “2013 Lowest True Cost to Own Sedan US$25-$30k).

Nissan Altima Interio

Nissan Altima Side

The Altima driving experience is where innovation pays off. Fluid, powerful acceleration, refined handling, an exceptional economy mean that passing the petrol station is as easy as passing that truck up ahead. The advanced, driver-focused technologies of the Altima aren’t there for show – they have purpose. Instrumentation designed to keep you informed while helping to minimise distraction. Even tires that can let you know when they need air, as well as when they’ve got enough. These aren’t tech toys – it’s innovation that you can really use.

When will the new Nissan Altima be launched?

At this stage, the Altima is set to arrive in our showroom here in Christchurch during December 2013.

The New Nissan Pathfinder

New Nissan Pathfinder

The all new Nissan Pathfinder, coming soon, features stylish curves and sharp looks which would no doubt attract approving looks from the neighbours!

With 2WD and 4WD options as well as 7 seat and a class leading 2,800kg Braked Tow Rating, this attractive SUV has been built to be entirely practical while proving a life-saver for any family outing, whether picking up the kids and their friends from rubgy or taking a boat or caravan out on a family trip.

Find out more about the Pathfinder and view more photos on our earlier blog post.

When will the new Nissan Pathfinder be launched?

The new Pathfinder will be here as early as mid-October! We can’t wait.

The Nissan Juke Turbo

Nissan Juke Turbo

Not a completely new vehicle as such, but the turbo addition to the Nissan Juke range is so awesome that we thought it was worth a mention here!

The turbo variant features 140kW of power as well as all-wheel-drive to help the Juke around the corners. We’re looking forward to seeing this in our showroom soon.

When will the Juke Turbo arrive?

The Juke Turbo should be with us during November of this year (2013!).

Nissan Juke

Congratulations, Nicky!

Nissan Juke

A big ‘congrats’ to Nicky for  winning $250 fuel vouchers as part of our monthly draw!

Nicky serviced her Nissan Juke with us and, when she received a survey from Nissan, provided us with feedback. As a result of this, she was entered into our monthly draw.

Nicky says:

Service: 11/10!! Fantastic, thank you so much!! I’m glad to be part of the Nissan family!

Congratulations again, Nicky! We hope you’re enjoying your Juke!

Nissan Patrol Towing Record

Nissan Patrol Pulls a 170 Ton Aircraft to Take the World Record

A Nissan Patrol V8 has towed a 170 ton aircraft to take the Guinnes World Record of “heaviest aircraft pulled by a production vehicle”!

The record was set at an airfield in Dubai and involved pulling a 170 ton Ilyushin Il-76 over 50 metres! The video shows the Patrol making this look easy as a crowd of onlookers snap photographs.

Impressive stuff.

Nissan LEAF in New Zealand

First Nissan LEAF in the South Island!

Nissan LEAF in New Zealand

I recently had the pleasure of joining our Business Manager, Brent Sullivan, in delivering a new Nissan LEAF to the Christchurch City Council’s Fleet Contract Manager, June Smith. June was delighted to see the new vehicle and has a chargepoint set up within their car park to recharge the LEAF after its day’s activity.

They’ll use the vehicle for everyday council activities, as well as for promoting their Target Sustainability programme which provides free resources for businesses looking to become more resource efficient through the reduction of waste and a focus on being energy and water efficient.

Nissan LEAF in Christchurch

Riding shotgun in the LEAF was a unique experience. Usually we’re carefully about when we start up a vehicle ‘indoors’ due to the noise of an engine echoing around our large showroom, but after a moment’s hesitation you realise that the LEAF is practically silent and produces zero emissions so, in fact, it didn’t matter at all!

Driving along Moorhouse Ave to the Christchurch City Council’s car park was also quite different as it was so quiet – you’re basically just listening to the tyres on the road – and Brent and I could chat to each other in unusually quiet voices.

About the Nissan LEAF

Unlike a hybrid, the Nissan LEAF is entirely an electric vehicle, meaning that it has no fuel-powered engine at all, relying 100% on its electrically charged batteries. This means that there are no emissions at all – no exhaust pipe, nothing!

Nissan LEAF Electric Car

Along the underside of the LEAF is one of Nissan’s most advanced laminated lithium-ion battery packs. These are quite different to the nickel metal hydride battery technology found in most hybrids as they are only half the weight but twice the power. Nissan say that the battery will give years of reliable service if charged correctly and the car is driven in an economical manner. They’re proud to stand behind this with a 3 year or 100,000km warranty (which covers the car itself as well). More details on the Nissan website.

Nissan LEAF Interior

The engine bay houses an electric motor as well as a more recognisable 12V battery that’s used to power the vehicle’s accessories. A solar panel at the back of the car’s roof helps to charge this battery.

Keep an eye out for the LEAF on the streets of Christchurch (you may not hear it coming!).

Nissan Pulsar Hatch

Return of the Pulsar Hatch

Seven years has passed since the Pulsar Hatch was last on sale in New Zealand, but Nissan has today announced full details on local launch, pricing and equipment for the eagerly anticipated Pulsar Hatch range.
Scheduled for local release early in June, Nissan has given its all-new hatchback line-up a starting price of $29,990 (plus on-road costs) and packed each model grade with generous standard equipment inclusions.
Today’s announcement positions the all-new Nissan Pulsar Hatch on a competitive footing in the marketplace.

Assigning the stylish hatchback an entry price below $30,000 (Nissan Pulsar Hatch ST, Recommended Retail Price) prepares the Pulsar Hatch for a strong start in the hotly contested Small Car market. The recently released Nissan Pulsar Sedan has been popular since its local arrival in March and the addition of the all-new Pulsar Hatch range is sure to advance Nissan’s Small Car success.

Nissan Pulsar Hatch Information

Three model grades, two engine choices

New Zealand customers will be able to choose from three model grades when the Pulsar Hatch range goes on sale in June. The Pulsar Hatch ST is powered by the same smooth and efficient 96kW 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine fitted to the popular Pulsar Sedan range. Drivers seeking more spice can opt for the Pulsar ST-S or SSS, both powered by Nissan’s responsive 140kW turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine.

Standard fitment on all grades is Nissan’s next-generation X-TRONIC CVT (Constantly Variable Transmission), with the Pulsar SSS featuring a Manual-Mode override.

Pulsar SSS

Nissan Pulsar SSSThe arrival of the Pulsar Hatch range will see the return of the much-loved Pulsar SSS, a name that won a generation of buyers with its sports styling and fun driving dynamics. The 140kW Pulsar SSS has been instilled with the same value strategy applied to all other grades in the Pulsar line-up. And to ensure more Small Car buyers can access the same driving excitement offered by the Pulsar SSS, Nissan is offering the Pulsar Hatch ST-S, powered by the same 140kW 1.6-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine.

The Pulsar SSS has been absent from New Zealand since 1998, when the 105kW 2.0 litre hatch was the flagship of the N15 Pulsar range. Well-regarded for its SR20 engine, the N15 Pulsar SSS hatch was one of the most performance orientated and well specified vehicles in its class.

Nissan Navara

Nissan Navara 4×4 Off-Road with Pete Ritchie (Video and Photos)

4x4 Drive DayWith more and more tradespeople coming to Christchurch, and the existing trade guys starting to build their fleet and company branding, we thought it was appropriate that we took a group of our customers out to a muddy hill in Christchurch so that they could experience the Nissan Navara at its finest.

The Nissan Navara has really excelled over the years and has become the work-horse of choice for any builder, plasterer, painter, or farmer looking for a vehicle that not only performs when it needs to while keeping its occupants safe and comfortable, but also stands out on the road. If you’re looking at putting sign-writing on a vehicle – a vehicle with some road presence is exactly what you need to help your branding stand out.

Test-driving the Nissan Navara around Christchurch streets can only reveal so much about a vehicle such as this – one that’s been designed to transport the team around a city but also make its way across un-finished roads, bumpy building sites and rugged farm land with ease. So that’s why we put together the 4x4xFUN event.

The 4x4xFUN Off-Road Event in Christchurch

4x4xFUN was created a few years ago by Cockram Nissan, and it was held most recently last weekend at a muddy and steep hill in Christchurch in very wet conditions! We took along a group of Nissan owners and fans and introduced them to Pete Ritchie and his wife Deb of Natural Instincts.

Pete has over 30 years’ experience in 4WDing, including a long history as a truck mechanic. These days he spends his time demonstrating the off-road capabilities of 4WD vehicles in terms of vehicle features and off-road technique. Basically, the man really knows his stuff.
Nissan Navara 4x4 Event
As guests arrived, Pete took them on a long course over the hills and down steep muddy slopes in a Nissan Navara ST-X 450 while talking about the vehicle’s handling.  Following that, passengers transferred to a white ST where they sat in the driver’s seat while Deb guided them over another course so they could put into practice everything that Pete had taught them.

Obviously, while we would love for hundreds of Nissan fans to join us at these events, we like to keep the numbers down so that everyone gets some quality time with the vehicle and is free to ask questions of Pete and Deb. However, so that anyone can get a sense of how the day pans out, we’ve put together a couple of videos for you to enjoy!

Commercial Nissan Navaras in Christchurch

We’ll finish by showing you a couple of fine examples of sign-written and modified Nissan Navara utes in Christchurch right now.

This one is the proud property of Glenn Chisholm of GRC Car Audio. It’s a real head-turner and we have no doubt that it helps to give his business plenty of presence on Christchurch roads.

Sign-written Nissan Navara

And Gas Installation Specialists have been more subtle with their sign-writing and yet their branding still stands out really well. Especially with the extra accessories on their Navara.

Recall Notice on Select Nissan Vehicles

Nissan Motor Company have issued the following statement in relation to a recall on specific Nissan vehicles:

“Takata (a parts supplier) has reported to NHTSA a potential safety defect in the Front Passenger Air Bag Inflators in certain 2000-2004 Nissan vehicles, and also vehicles of our competitors. Nissan is conducting a voluntary safety recall campaign to address the issue identified by Takata and replace the front passenger air bag inflator. Nissan plans to begin notifying customers within 30 days. Nissan dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with a countermeasure one at no cost to the customers for parts or labour.

Nissan is committed to a high level of customer safety, service and satisfaction and is working with its dealers to promptly address this issue.”

The process here in New Zealand is that Nissan New Zealand will write to the owners of all vehicles, purchased new in NZ, that fall within the VIN (build numbers) of those models determined to be affected. Those customers will be invited in to their nearest Nissan dealership for the fitment of the countermeasure component. In cases where the nearest dealership is Cockram Nissan, our service team will aim to minimise disruption to you as much as possible.

We anticipate that these notifications will be posted within 30 days subsequent to owner details being confirmed by LTSA.

Initial advice indicates that the number of vehicles affected in New Zealand will be less than 300. The models involved are Japanese manufactured: Pulsar, X-Trail and Patrol.

Nissan NZ is unable to quantify the number of Nissan vehicles imported into NZ as used cars that will be impacted by the above. Information regarding the models affected will be posted on the Nissan NZ website as soon as this becomes available.

Nissan have announced that there are only approximately 200 Nissan New Zealand-supplied vehicles affected by this voluntary recall in the New Zealand market and, to-date, Nissan Motor Company Ltd is not aware of any incidents associated with this issue in Nissan vehicles.

Nissan is committed to a high level of customer safety, service and satisfaction and is working with its dealers to promptly address this issue.
