Press Reaction to the New Nissan Patrol

The all-new Nissan Patrol 2013 SUV has been launched and is ‘in the flesh’ in our showroom right now. It’s an incredible vehicle – enter the showroom and you can almost feel its presence!

Nissan have really changed the ‘Patrol’ brand with his launch – it’s now a far more luxurious vehicle than its predecessors and with a lot of technology that helps to give the SUV amazing ride comfort.

Motoring journalists from Stuff.co.nz and the NZ Herald have already written some excellent reviews for new Patrol.

Nissan Patrol 2013 Profile in Alpine White

In Rob Maetzig’s article for Stuff.co.nz, titled Rugged Nissan Patrol gets V8 refinement, Rob mentions the many features of the Patrol and sums up with:

“It all adds up to a new Nissan Patrol that appeals as something special for the $114,000 price. Last week, the Nissan Australia people described it as “rugged meets refined”, and that’s not a bad description at all”

Nissan Patrol Off-RoadPhil Hanson for the New Zealand Herald titled his article, New Patrol rides high road. In this, he compares the Nissan Patrol with the Toyota Land Cruiser and highlights Nissan’s plan to “bring the Patrol further on to the road, while equipping it with good off-road ability, should it be needed”.

Priced from $114,000, Phil believes that “the new Patrol represents good buying in an expensive segment. A base Land Cruiser VX costs $125,790 and the super-luxury Lexus LX570 starts from $196,900.” He also states:

“The new Patrol gives most buyers with six figures to spend all they want in an SUV: style, room, good performance and top towing.”

Nissan Reports Record Success

A good sign of a quality car can be the global success to the company behind it. If you’ve just bought a new Nissan last year, you can rest assured that you and the other 4.94 million people that purchased a new Nissan throughout the world in 2012 can’t be wrong!

Nissan Sales Around the World

Nissan’s record global sales in 2012 of 4.94 million units shows an increase of 5.8% from the previous year. In Japan, Nissan’s sales rose 11.6% to 659,756 units. The new Note hatchback, NV350 Caravan and Serena minivan contributed to the sales increase. Mini-vehicles grew 5.4% to 153,335 units, a record for a calendar year.

Overseas sales rose 4.9% to a record 4,280,377 units despite a drop in sales in China, Nissan’s largest market. During calendar year 2012, Nissan’s sales in China totalled 1.18 million units, in line with the revised sales forecast issued in November. While Nissan and all Japanese automakers felt the sales impact of a territorial dispute, Nissan’s showroom traffic in China has normalised and is exceeding last year’s level.

In the US, Nissan reported record sales of 1,141,656 units for Nissan and Infiniti brand vehicles, up 9.5% compared with 2011. Nissan brand sales increased 8.2% year-on-year to a record 1,021,779 units thanks to strong demand for the new Altima sedan, Rogue crossover and Versa compact car. Nissan’s total market share in the US was 7.9%.

Nissan Altima

In 2012, five out of the top ten vehicles sold in Mexico were Nissan, as the company posted both record sales and market share. Sales climbed 9.3% to 245,634 units while market share reached 24.9%.

In Brazil, where Nissan plans to build its first plant in Resende in 2014, Nissan sold a record 104,711 units, up 56% compared with the previous year. Nissan was Brazil’s fastest-growing brand for the third straight year. The company’s market share reached 2.9%, up 0.9 percentage points.

In Europe, Nissan posted a record market share thanks to strong sales of the Qashqai and Juke crossovers. Although sales fell 2.4% to 678,697 units amid the overall downturn in the market, Nissan’s market share edged up 0.1 percentage point to a record 3.9%.

Sales in the UK rose 10% to a record 118,211 units while market share rose 0.3 percentage points to 5.2%, also a record. In Russia, Nissan’s top market in Europe, sales rose 11.7% to 162,956 units. Market share stood at 5.6%.

All of this means that if you purchase a new Nissan, you’ll have one huge support network behind you!

Nissan Pulsar ST

The Nissan Pulsar Returns with More for Less

The much-loved Nissan Pulsar name is returning to New Zealand from March 2013. With more space, more performance, and more value than ever before.

Powered by an advanced and highly efficient 1.8-litre engine, the Pulsar sedan launches first, with the all-new hatchback following in June 2013.

Pulsar sedan will be available in two trim levels: ST and Ti. While both grades feature a stylish 16-inch alloy wheel design, the Ti sedan is differentiated with a boot-lid spoiler, front fog lights and LED accent lights, and indicator repeaters within the exterior mirrors.

On the interior, Ti features luxurious leather upholstery, and leather steering wheel, plus a colour display for the audio system. Both ST and Ti have the added convenience of steering-wheel mounted controls for cruise control, audio system and Bluetooth handsfree phone.

The new Pulsar sedan has a longer cabin than any of its key market rivals and many mid-sized family vehicles, combined with an exceptional 510 litres of boot space.

Nissan Pulsar Rear

The Pulsar’s long-stroke 1,798cc four-cylinder engine is equipped with twin continuously variable valve timing control (C-VTC) and develops 96kW of power and 174Nm of torque.

The Pulsar sedan is available with Nissan’s new Xtronic CVT transmission, which offers much smoother acceleration and a broader gear ratio range than a conventional automatic.

Considerable efforts have been made to reduce friction in both its engine and CVT transmission in the interest of greater fuel saving and driving comfort. Fuel economy is rated at 6.7 litres per 100km, on the ADR combined cycle.

Despite its larger size, the new Pulsar sedan matches the best vehicles in its class for aerodynamic efficiency, with an impressive drag coefficient value of 0.30.

Considerable attention has been paid to sculpting the underside of the vehicle, with air flow controlled by the large front spoiler past the front and rear wheels by strategically-placed deflectors.

The front of the new Pulsar sedan immediately stamps its authority as a beautifully designed small car and includes distinctive styled headlamps.
Chrome exterior door handles and accent mouldings complete Pulsar’s upmarket presence and elegance.

With exceptional rear seat room, the Pulsar sedan matches and in some dimensions surpasses the interior dimension of many larger ‘family’ cars.

Modern and ergonomically correct, the Pulsar’s interior immediately identifies it as a class above comparative models in its segment.

Soft-feel coverings are employed for the dashboard, door and centre armrests, combined with low gloss finishes to minimise dashboard reflection, enhance the vehicle’s inviting, high quality feel and ambience.

The new Pulsar sedan bristles with safety features including four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist, Traction Control and Vehicle Dynamic Control, front, side and curtain airbags and three-point seat belts for all occupants.

Pricing is as equally attractive as the Pulsar itself. The ST sedan model has a recommended retail price of $29,990 plus onroad costs, and $33,490 plus onroad costs for the Ti sedan. At these aggressive retail price points the all new Nissan Pulsar really does deliver on its promise of More for Less.

Cockram Nissan: A Dealership Focused on People

Cockram Nissan in the News

Alistair Hazeldine at Cockram NissanCockram Nissan recently appeared on top Fairfax Media news website, Stuff.co.nz. The article,  People power to the fore at award-winning dealership, was in celebration of the dealership winning the title of Nissan New Zealand ‘Dealer of the Year’, despite problems caused by severe earthquake damage which will eventually see the dealership having to be entirely rebuilt.

Our Dealer Principal, Alistair Hazeldine, said that winning the award is a remarkable achievement for the business, himself, and its 36 staff. Not just Dealer of the Year, Cockram Nissan has also been the number one Nissan dealer in the country for annual sales of the Nissan Navara range for a number of years.

Alistair is quick to attribute the dealership’s success to focusing on people as opposed to being focused on vehicles.

“There are three groups of people you have to look after to be successful as a dealer principal – your staff, your customers and your suppliers. Any one of these three groups has the ability to improve your business and make it an award winning success when you treat them with respect. Conversely, treating anyone of these three groups with disrespect can poison it overnight.

“Selling vehicles is first and foremost a ‘people business’ and that is what the late Bill Cockram told me when I started work here on my first day back in 1980. He said “It’s all about the people, son.”

Customer loyalty is exceptionally high with their customers spread throughout the South Island. Alistair says people like to take advantage of the fact Cockram Nissan has a bigger range of new and late model second-hand Nissan vehicles to choose from than any other dealership in the South Island.

Due to the damage caused by the earthquakes to the company’s premises, over the next few years Cockram Nissan will be transformed as a brand new state-of-the-art dealership complex is built. Dealer principal Alistair Hazeldine is excited about the prospect.

“The existing new car showroom was at the leading edge of showroom design when it was built 28 years ago and still looks modern today despite the earthquake damage but the rest of the buildings date from the 1940s. We will be able to build not only a new showroom and administration area but a brand new service and parts facility as well.”

The new dealership will provide the perfect home for what Hazeldine says is a very strong product line up from Nissan. He says sales of their Navara ute range is exceptionally strong at the moment with the upsurge in demolition and construction work in the city.

Batman Nissan Juke Nismo Badge

Batman-Inspired Nissan Juke. The Next Batmobile?

Batman's Nissan Juke Nismo

To celebrate the release of The Dark Knight Rises on Blu-Ray and DVD, Nissan have built a one-off Batman-inspired Nissan Juke Nismo.

Dubbed The Dark Knight Rises Juke Nismo (catchy), this matt black car features aluminium Batman badges (or are they removable bat-shaped morning-stars?) as well as unique gloss black 18-inch alloy wheels with bespoke red detailing.

Nissan Juke Batmobile Badge

The Batman logos continue through to the interior, with the emblem embroidered into the Nismo sports seats. A shark fin aerial replaces the standard aerial and is capable of picking up police transmissions and calls of distress from Gotham citizens (probably).

Batman Nissan Juke Nismo Rear

One of the more unique features, which we unfortunately don’t have a photo of, is the downlight mounted under the wing mirror. Usually, this feature conveniently lights the floor area next to the door. In this version, however, the light projects the famous bat signal onto the floor instead. Another light projects the same signal onto the ceiling space of the interior. Quite a head-turner and a great conversation piece when arriving at events! Imagine dropping your kids off at their first school ball in this!

Batman Nissan Juke Nismo Badge

Of course, let’s not forget that this is a Nismo-spec vehicle. That means features include a Nismo bodykit, red pinstriping along the bumpers and sills, Nismo badging, uprated suspension, and a 1.6 litre turbocharged engine that delivers 147kW to the front wheels.

The Nissan Juke isn’t the first vehicle to under-go the modern Batman treatment. Our brothers-from-another-mother, Cockram Kia, have a few photos of the Batman-inspired Kia Optima over in their Facebook Photo Album.

This Juke is a one-off but we’re pretty sure there are others who have modified their Nissan to look a bit more Batman-esque. Perhaps even just the matt-black paint treatment. If you have any photos, let us know below!
